On Sunday, October 6 at 2pm, Latvian artist Linda Vilka will host the workshop ‘We Really Are Allowed to Get Tired’ at Kai Art Center.
As part of the opening weekend program of the main exhibition of the 9th Tallinn Applied Art Triennial, The Fine Lines of Constructiveness, this workshop will focus on themes of mental and physical exhaustion. Participants will collaborate to create an artwork using small stones as part of a larger mural.
The series We Are Allowed to Be Tired, which forms the foundation of the workshop, comprises 400,000 crystals that symbolize the shifting physical and mental states experienced during fatigue. Linda Vilka deconstructs mass-produced diamond painting kits, typically associated with routine and clichés, transforming each crystal into a tool for introspection. Through a process centered on acknowledging, accepting, and reflecting on emotions, these works ultimately explore authentic ways to cope with and overcome exhaustion.
Linda Vilka is a multidisciplinary artist and storyteller. She has studied in Latvia, Lithuania, and the Netherlands, and is currently working on her PhD at the Latvian Academy of Arts. Her research focuses on how to revive small parishes, villages, and forgotten places by using different combinations of participatory art, community art, and contemporary art aspects.
The workshop is suitable for both adults and children. To participate, an exhibition ticket and a separate workshop pass are required. We recommend purchasing your workshop ticket in advance here to secure your spot in the workshop.
