Still from Essi Kausalainen, she saw worm and algae swimming in the sun, 2024, video (HD)

Please join us on Wednesday, April 8 at 6pm at Kai auditorium for an evening of sharing notes on work-in-progress, a curated selection of short films, and time to mingle.

During the event, Kai’s current curator-in-residence Elina Suoyrjö presents some fragments of her ongoing curatorial research on ecofeminist and hydrofeminist artistic practices. We’ll think together about deep and lush forests, more-than-human knowledges, witchy architectural constructions, the depths of the oceans, and the scent of the air. The presentation is followed by a screening program featuring video works by international artists working on watery and ecological subject matter, including Ursula Biemann, Essi Kausalainen, Monika Czyzyk & Neil Luck, and more. The screening is followed by informal mingle and further discussions.

Elina Suoyrjö is a Finnish curator, writer, and researcher whose intersectional feminist practice is grounded in close dialogue and collaboration with artists. Her recent projects have explored ecofeminisms, hydrofeminisms, the occult in art, and the potential of curatorial work to generate transformative processes. She holds degrees in art history, gender studies, and curating, as well as a PhD in feminist curating.

The event is free and will take place in English. We look forward to seeing you!
