Three MiniDV tapes of life in Gaza from 2001 were recently rediscovered. What started as a search for a former prison mate led to an unexpected road trip from the north to the south of Gaza with Hasan, a local guide whose fate remains unknown. The film is a reflection on memory, loss and the passage of time, capturing a Gaza of the past and lives that may never be found again.
After the screening, the programme’s curator Vivek Jain will facilitate a reflective assembly. He is an art worker and researcher whose practice engages with themes instead of disciplines—where art extends anthropological curiosities and enquiries. Currently a Contemporary Arts student at EKA, Vivek has worked extensively with Cinema as Assembly and as a mode of commoning in his curatorial practice.
The screening is part of the programme The Image Insists. Made across thirty-five years, the programme’s three films work on images that already exist. They ask who gets to be seen, on whose terms, and what an image can still do once the world it recorded has been destroyed. The programme approaches cinema as assembly and remembrance as resistance.
Curated by Vivek Jain. Poster by Sára Král.
