The primal darkness of Walpurgis Night meets the anniversary of one of contemporary cinema’s most controversial auteurs. Lars von Trier turns 70! We celebrate this at Kai Cinema with a film that is as wild, as disturbing, and as brilliant as his body of work – Antichrist.

Walpurgis Night is a moment when nature, mythology, and the darker side of the human psyche rise to the surface. Lars von Trier’s Antichrist embodies all of these elements with extraordinary intensity. This is not a film that tells the story of Walpurgis Night – it is Walpurgis Night.

Antichrist is a 2009 arthouse horror film. Willem Dafoe and Charlotte Gainsbourg portray a grieving couple who, after the tragic death of their child, retreat to a secluded forest cabin called Eden. There, nature turns hostile and the woman’s psyche begins to unravel, revealing violent, mythological, and ritualistic undertones.

For her role in what became the most controversial film of the 2009 Cannes Film Festival, Charlotte Gainsbourg won the Best Actress award (Palme d’Or).

Come and celebrate a night when nature, mythology, and cinema collide.
