In the poverty-stricken outskirts of Orlando, Florida – just out of sight of Disney World – are 22-year-old mum Halley and her six-year-old daughter Moonee, living in a garish roadside motel managed by Bobby, whose stern exterior hides a deep reservoir of kindness and compassion. Moonee is a force of nature, and her adventures with friends and family are irrepressible, roaming around the grounds with a carefree childhood innocence. Meanwhile, the equally rebellious Halley – though barely an adult herself – does everything within her power to provide for her family amidst difficult circumstances.

Warm, winning, and gloriously alive, Sean Baker’s “The Florida Project” is a deeply moving and unforgettably poignant look at childhood.
